Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro (SM-R640)

Within the brand's audio range, the Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro mark a step forward in technical terms. Their hardware design is geared towards acoustic precision, combining dual amplification, Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity and Galaxy AI processing for smart noise control and functions such as real-time translation.

The SM-R640 carries IP57 certification, which means protection against dust and against immersion in fresh water to a depth of 1 metre for 30 minutes, going beyond the usual IPX4 rating for TWS earphones.

Dual-driver audio design

Sound is delivered through a two-driver setup: an 11 mm woofer handling low frequencies alongside a 6 mm planar tweeter for the highs.

A Dual Amp system takes care of power management, driving each driver separately so that the frequency ranges do not interfere with one another, which sharpens sonic accuracy.

For audio transmission, the Samsung Seamless Codec (SSC) is used, reaching 24-bit / 96 kHz resolution. Thanks to this technology, Hi-Fi playback is possible on Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 6.0 or higher.

Adaptive Noise Cancellation v2.0

An Adaptive ANC v2.0 system powered by artificial intelligence algorithms is built into the Galaxy Buds4 Pro. The hardware includes 6 microphones with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) plus a dedicated VPU (Voice Pickup Unit) that analyses the surroundings.

The cancellation level is adjusted automatically by the AI in line with ambient noise. Safety functions are also on board, such as siren or alarm detection, which turns off the ANC to warn the user. If human conversation is picked up, Ambient Mode is activated automatically and the volume of media content is lowered.

Bluetooth 6.1 and the Galaxy ecosystem

Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity is integrated and works with LE Audio and Auracast, making it possible to receive public audio streams in compatible settings.

With the Auto Switch function, the connection moves automatically between devices linked to the same Samsung account, whether smartphones, tablets, watches or TVs. The multipoint feature, though, is mainly optimised within the Galaxy ecosystem.

360° audio and gesture control

For multimedia content and video games, the Audio 360 system supports multi-channel playback up to 7.1.2. An IMU (inertial measurement unit) with accelerometer and gyroscope handles head tracking.

Head gestures offer another way to control the earphones: a nod answers calls, while shaking the head rejects them, all without touching the headphones.

Battery and build

Playback reaches up to 6 hours with ANC switched on, and up to 26 hours in total when using the recharges from the 530 mAh case.

Fast charging is supported through USB-C, as well as Qi wireless charging.
